Gamius is a company headquartered in Chicago. It was founded by Fred Matthews in 1986 for specializing in video games.

History[]

Before it was founded[]

1971-1981[]

On October 15, 1971, 15 years before founding the company, Fred was at the Music Operators of America trade show in his hometown, Chicago. He was there because his father had three tickets to the show. He was interested in the Computer Space game, so, later his father, Fred, and his mother got an arcade cabinet and the video game to keep (it was a bonus for attending the show), and all of them invited all the people they knew of to see the unveiling of the arcade cabinet. One friend, Richard Ottman, filmed the whole event with a Nikon camera, which was later shown as an Easter egg in the video game Invited to the Unveiling.

Invited to the Unveiling[]

Plot[]

Richard, who is unveiling something, wants to invite you. But you’re 10,000 kilometres far, so you go on a journey.

Inspiration[]

It was inspired by the unveiling of the arcade cabinet in 1971.

Easter eggs[]

  1. If you are in the ocean, you will find a message in a bottle. It has a website address on it, and if you put it on the web, it will show you a video that Richard Ottman filmed.
    1. At the end, you will see a Congratulations message. Clicking on the word "Congratulations" leads us to ottman.gamius.com/fhksb/197u0/congrats/office2000/fred-and-richard/early-game-graphics.html. Clicking the first one will show "Eu tenho email, você tem email, eu tenho email, você tem email.". Then check your emails and search for one sent by Richard Ottman (richman@gamius.com) called "fredews@gamius.com October 15, 1971 Eu tenho email, você tem email, eu tenho email, você tem email."
    2. The content of the email is: "Oh, we hardly knew yé, Fred. 12/6/99 email Tandy 400".

01/03/00 PayPal error

Hello, it's me from richman.com. I checked my PayPal account in my dream home I bought yesterday, and the $184 quadrillion I received was gone! Yesterday it was $183.9 quadrillion, but now it's $0! Thank goodness I installed something to bring content from my new site richman.com to my old site, ottman.gamius.com. It's called WebContentCarrier, version 2.0. My server runs on a thousand potatoes, 100 computers, 50 AA batteries, and my old Gameboy. That's right, I got a new Gameboy with Pokémon Red and Blue. But, I have a pregnant wife and two kids. And I love my dream home, so that's okay with...

01/01/00 I received $184 quadrillion from PayPal!

Oh, hello. The world doesn't end today, by the way. It's January 1, 2000, and PayPal had some Y2K trouble with me today. My email says that I'm a rich man, and PayPal thought it was true, but in its bank, I have only $35 left (I gave $19,965 to Gamius). Then, today, I checked PayPal and saw $184 quadrillion! Must've been the new 128-bit thing they installed yesterday for Y2K. Now, I can live in my dream home, sell all my old stuff, buy some expensive...

Cassettes[]

In 1986, Gamius sold cassettes along with the video games. The cassettes contained the game music if the music was lost.

Game music found in cassettes[]

Sometimes, game music that was thought to be lost was found in the cassettes.

  1. In 1998, the game "Case Construction" was lost because they were accidentally thrown out. Some of the code was found in 1999, but the cassette was found when a house was going to be demolished in 2001.
